When Karol O’Connor came to work alongside his father Denis, he found a thriving business but one weighed down by manual processes that consumed enormous amounts of time.
The most stressful part was tracking customers and invoices. Everything was done manually, then logged into a book a second time. With a huge customer base, it was incredibly time-consuming, and it meant Karol was typically working from 7am to 8pm every day.
Through the LEO’s Lean for Micro programme in Limerick, Karol worked with LeanBPI to develop an online workflow system that handles sales, calculates VAT, generates invoices, and keeps track of payments all from a mobile phone.
“It has been a game-changer for me.” — Karol O’Connor, MHS Healthcare
The impact was immediate. Denis was freed up to focus on what he does best , sales, while Karol found the time to develop and launch an entirely new line of business providing hygiene products to schools, crèches, and gyms. The business actually grew through the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Now I can finish on a Friday at 4.30pm — and, even better, I’ve got a weekend.” — Karol O’Connor, MHS Healthcare
